University Profile 
Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation goes back to the establishment of the ThirumurugaKirupananda Variyar Thavathiru Sundara Swamigal (TKVTSS) Medical Educational and Charitable Trust in the year 1981. With this, the visionary founder-chairman Dr. A. Shanmugasundaram founded the Vinayaka Mission's College of Pharmacy at Salem in the year 1982. This institution was the first stepping stone for educational activities undertaken by Vinayaka Missions.

An important leap indeed: the year, 2001, saw Vinayaka Missions securing the coveted "Deemed to be University" status. This was awarded by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India along with the nod from the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. This honour described its commitment towards exemplary understanding of education, achievement of the most elevated academic standards, and provision of brilliant infrastructural facilities-all coming together to build its place in the field of education. This action proved to be the metamorphosis of Vinayaka Missions as the "Vinayaka Mission's Research Foundation (VMRF)" and made her the 48th University of India.

Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation houses copious academic comprise of 13 Colleges and 12 Schools, including 3 Medical Colleges, 2 Engineering Colleges, 1 Dental College, 1 Pharmacy College, 1 Homeopathy Medical College, 3 Physiotherapy Colleges/Schools, 3 Nursing Colleges, 2 Arts & Science Colleges/Schools, 5 Schools of Allied Health Sciences, and 1 School dedicated to Law, Physical Education, Rehabilitation and Behavioral Science and Economic policy. These institutions are found across four campuses in Salem and Chengalpet Districts.
