Aarupadai Veedu Medical College Pondicherry - Service to all is the motto behind the establishment of this institution. There is more to it than meets the eye, the other objective is to ensure high quality education about medicine is available to all.

The journey always begins in a humble way and this stands true for this institution. As the time moves ahead, great heights are achieved, this too stands right for this college.

Treading down the memory lane, Thirumuruga Kirupananda Variyar Thavathiru Sundara Swamigal Medical Educational and Charitable Trust was started by Founder Chancellor Dr A. Shanmugasundaram in 1981 to serve the needy in the society.

The work began and it took not long to get over. The trust established its first medical college in Pondicherry (now Puducherry), Aarupadai Veedu Medical College and Hospital, in 2000. Located at Pondicherry- Cuddalore Road, a national highway, the self-contained and serene campus is spread over 44 acres of lush green lands. The educational institution was initially affiliated to Pondicherry University.

This institution is a place to be for those who wish to study medicine. MBBS course was started in 2000-2001 and continued ever since.

At present, the annual intake is 150 MBBS and 74 postgraduate students; currently, over 750 undergraduate and postgraduate students are pursuing their studies at AVMCH. The institution offers postgraduate courses in 13 disciplines and PhD programmes across various specialities and interdisciplinary areas. 

Aarupadai Veedu Medical College and Hospitaloffers patient care, diagnostic, rehabilitative, preventive and pharmacy services. The hospitalboasts of a well-designed, efficient dialysis unit. Laparoscopy equipment for general and gynaecological surgery, ESWL, lithotripsy, PUVA chamber and laser instruments for cosmetic surgery are available for quality patient care services. There is always something for students here. 

All departments in the college are fully equipped with the necessary infrastructure. The institute has a well-appointed, spacious library with internet, Wi-Fi, audio-visual facilities and an e-learning centre.

The campus has Wi-Fi enabled for the convenience of staff and students. The auditorium can accommodate 750 persons for large group events. All these amenities would say that this is the place to be for studies in medicine.
