About VIT University Vellore
Vellore Institute of Technology VIT University, Vellore was established in 1984 as a self-financing institution called the Vellore Engineering College by Dr G. Viswanathan, a former Parliamentarian and Minister in the Tamil Nadu Government, under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956. VIT got the University status in 2001 by the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development. The university is approved by AICTE and recognised by UGC.
The global standards set at VIT in the field of teaching and research have led it to excellence. Many students, who pursue their research projects in foreign universities, bring high-quality their work and esteem to India. It offers 52 Undergraduate, 32 Postgraduate, 11 Integrated Programs, 2 Research programs, and 2 M.Tech Industrial Programs.
In addition to a full-time PhD. Degrees in Engineering and Management Disciplines, PhD in Science and Languages and Integrated PhD programs in engineering disciplines are also offered. Research Centres encourage inter-departmental collaborative participation of students in exciting research projects.
